Modern slavery policy

How Bluemoon Equestrian prevents slavery, forced labour, child labour, and trafficking in its yard and programmes.

Who this covers

This policy applies to Bluemoon Equestrian (Pty) Ltd, registration 2021/742167/07, operating in Fourways, Gauteng, South Africa, and to everyone who works with us: employees, contractors, grooms, working pupils, visiting instructors, suppliers, and hospitality partners used for the Immersion. It also covers riders and accompanying family on the Elite International Rider Immersion.

Our position

Bluemoon does not use, tolerate, or benefit from slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, child labour, or human trafficking. We act in line with section 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act 7 of 2013. Nobody at the yard may withhold identity documents, charge recruitment fees to workers, restrict a person’s movement, or withhold wages as a means of control.

Work at the yard

Everyone who works at Bluemoon does so voluntarily, with agreed duties and lawful pay or a documented training arrangement. Working pupils and EQASA students are here to learn; they are not a substitute for unpaid labour. Hours, rest, and safety rules of the yard apply to staff and students alike.

Young riders

Immersion applicants aged 15–17 must be enrolled by a parent or legal guardian. The programme is education and sport, not employment. We do not place children in work that is harmful, unpaid, or disconnected from their guardian. Riders aged 18–21 apply in their own name and remain free to leave the programme under the enrollment contract.

Suppliers and partners

Feed, transport, veterinary, farriery, photography, and hospitality suppliers are chosen as known professional partners. If we learn that a supplier uses forced labour or trafficking, we stop using them and report the matter where the law requires it.

How to report

Anyone who suspects slavery, forced labour, or trafficking connected to Bluemoon should email admin@bluemoonequestrian.co.za or nicky@bluemoonequestrian.co.za, or telephone +27 61 016 4077. Immersion families may also write to admissions@bluemoonequestrian.com. Reports can be made without using the person you are concerned about as a messenger. We will not penalise a worker, student, rider, or parent for raising a genuine concern. Criminal trafficking must also be reported to the South African Police Service.
